
PORTABLE APPLIANCE TESTING
An additional service we can offer our clients is PA Testing for compliance to the Electricity at Work regulations. A combination of regulations state that every employer shall ensure that work equipment is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order and in good repair.
The frequency of inspections can vary from environment to usage intervals. In general it is suggested the frequency is:

Portable Appliances = Vacuums, heaters, kettles
Movable Equipment > 18kg and not fixed = Air conditioning unit on wheels
Handheld Equipment intended to be held during normal use = Drill, hair dryer
Stationary Equipment < 18kg and not provided with handles = Refrigerators, drinks machines
Fixed Equipment that is fastened/secured in a specific location = Bathroom heaters, towel rails
IT Equipment = Computers, Printers, Powerpacks, VDUs
Extension Leads = Use should be avoided where possible but tested as portable appliances
Detachable Flexes must also be tested separately = PC lead, VDU lead
In addition to the above you can also do your own weekly visual test by checking the appliances flex, plug top, environment and suitability of job. If any problems are found do not hesitate to give us a call and we will ensure that your equipment is working correctly. When faults are found we will repair your appliance where applicable, ie replace flex, plug tops, fuses etc but any items found faulty / defective, will be brought to your attention and deemed unusable. |
